Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Everyone is Irish today (or this weekend if you're celebrating late)!

If you're playing Battlefront or Battlefront II I recommend choosing a character with green in their outfit (or a green lightsaber). Those who don't adhere to the "green only" rule may be begging to get pinched (use your imagination for how that would be done in the games)!

And if you see any Leprachauns, be sure to follow them to their pot of gold at the end of the Rainbow... have a safe holiday. ;)

SWBF2 - New Multiplayer Options Discovered
According to forum member SBF_Dann_Boeing it is possible to play single player maps online in Star Wars Battlefront II. While this may not have been an intended and tested gameplay feature, it may provide some more variety for players, even while they wait for new mods to come out to extend the life of the game!

03-02-2006, 06:16 PM
Discovery!

ok ok check this out, i dont know if anyone has figured this out yet, but its possible to play CAMPAIN maps ONLINE, without downloading ANY mods. the way u do this is run a Non-dedicated server and use the usual code for adding maps (/admin /addmap), but instead of putting the ending, _con, _1ctf, or _ass, put _c and you will get the campain mode of the map, ex: in cor1c_c you will be able to play the jedi vs clones on Coruscant as u did campaign but u play it ONLINE and you can play on BOTH sides. You can do this for everymap as long as it existed in campaign mode. Credit for this discovery currently goes to my freind ~GCU~GENRUDEDOG.
....
the evil side normally will win as they have the advantage, cuz they only have to take out reenforcements while the good side has objectives, but it is still fun, esp. hoth and kashyyyk

Thanks for pointing this out guys! I have yet to test this myself, but I'm sure we'll be hearing more about this in the future...

Discuss the discovery in this forum thread!

SWBF2 Patches Mirrored
We've finally caught up with the Star Wars Battlefront II patch mirrors on LucasFiles.com our network files site.

To help clear up any confusion, there are several editions of the 1.1 Update patch for SWBF2:

PC Users in the US should download the domestic version.

PC Users outside the US with the DVD-ROM edition should download the DVD-ROM International version.

PC Users outside the US with the CD-ROM edition should download the CD-ROM International version.

PC users wishing to host a server for other PC users should download the PC 1.1 Dedicated server which is only for windows operating systems.

Update: I see the Mod Tools are also mirrored now finally, and they can be found here. Warning, the file is 538 megs (but worth it since we need new content for this game)! Good luck to all our budding editors out there... ;)

SWBF2 Mod Tools Released
Finally, the moment we've all been waiting for... the official mod tools for Star Wars Battlefront II are out!

Of course, it's a hefty download and we don't have mirrors up (it may be awhile, due to the size and time required):

As reported on the LucasArts forum:

EDITED BY xtmn8r: Feb 21, 2006 04:05 PM

The Mod Tools are now available on Fileplanet. You can find it HERE

It is about 540MB to download, 1.5GB after it is done installing and takes about 150MB each time you start a new map. So make sure you have plenty of hard drive space before you start.

WE recommend you read the README and the Getting Started Document before getting into it. There is also a documentation folder with a bunch of documentation on various aspects of the tools. We also HIGHLY recommend installing it to the default directory & that you have Battlefront II installed prior to installing the Mod Tools

Remember, these are Development Tools so aren't nearly as stable as commercial software. Although the Tools are fairly stable, we have seen issues where if you undo too many entries too quickly it could cause the program to hang. With anything, it is always a good idea to save often

Lastly, although we will not blindly forget about this release, we are unable to offer support for this and our support group has no knowledge about the Tools themselves.

IF you do encounter any issues or have questions, we encourage you to post it here on the forums and we will do our best to answer it or address it in some other fashion

Please use the Mod tools Reaction thread for all discussion on these tools.

So since they're asking for feedback, you know what to do. Let's see some quality mods, now okay? Submit them to LucasFiles.com, our fan network's file server, for community approval! ;)

SWBF1 1.3 Patch Mirrored
While the Star Wars Battlefront v1.3 (beta) patch is old news, it just hasn't gotten the exposure needed I think. It was an improvement over 1.2 (though requiring 1.2 to be installed first) and yet fewer people use it.

Major things changed like removing the framerate cap, increased stability and balance issues I think are things people would like in this patch. In any case, it's now mirrored up on LucasFiles.com. Sorry it took so long!

For PC: 1.3 beta update

Patch Name: Battlefront_Beta1_3.exe

Platform: PC

Format: CD-ROM NOTE: The patch is a downloadable exe.

Size: 8.95 MB (9,389,691 bytes)

Min. Requirements: N/A

Posted: 04/21/05

Installation: This is a self extracting exe. Double-clicking on this file installs the patch.

Reminder this is a BETA version for Battlefront and may not work on all systems and is for the U.S. version of the game only. Version 1.2 must be installed first in order for this version to be properly installed

This update addresses the following:
--------------------------
CHANGES FROM 1.2
--------------------------
Multiplayer
Unlocked frame rate
Better tolerance of latency spikes and frame rate spikes
Fixed an end of game hang
Better smoothing of predicted positions and orientations
Allow more maps specified from dedicated server command line
Better Droideka prediction
Added remote admin support for those hosting dedicated servers
Tighter clock synchronization under normal conditions
Fixed joining servers behind most firewalls
Allow more mod maps (was 50, now 512)
Global
Fixed CIS Pilot shooting backwards
NOTE: Users hosting Star Wars Battlefront PC Dedicated Servers will need to download and install the updated version of the PC Dedicated server software for compatibility with the 1.3 version update.

Hello everyone,

It took us a few more days then we thought but we are just about ready to release the PC update. As a few have already noticed, we have released the updated Dedicated Server Software that will support version 1.1. This dedicated server also has all of its features working now. You can find the Server Software on fileplanet here. Note that this server can only host games for people with the PC update version 1.1
....
We are finishing up the testing of the Mod Tools. It will likely be made available within the week. We are working hard to have it ready by this Friday before the long weekend.

Thanks for your continued support.

The Star Wars Battlefront II Team

....
Please note there are 2 versions to choose from. One for Domestic and one for International. All regions will still be able to play together in the same game.

Thanks to xtmn8r for that news report, and of course to the Pandemic team for their continued support of this game (better late than never!) ;)

PC Update -- Waiting Continues
It's been a few days since the last update on the LucasArts "Star Wars Battlefront II" forums regarding the upcoming PC update/patch. Clearly the patch (and mod tools package) is behind schedule, and let me tell you we feel your pain! The LucasArts forums and our LucasForums fan boards are abuzz with people wondering what's going on behind the scenes and what we can expect.

Rest assured, as soon as we recieve word that the patch has been released we'll post about it, and get a mirror of the file up on LucasFiles.com as soon as we can.

Good luck to the Pandemic team with squashing those bugs!

Update: As of Feb. 14, 6:00pm CST, there is still no patch. Keep your eyes peeled!

Xbox SWBF2 Expansion Pack Live
Xbox users now can download an "expansion pack" for their version of Star Wars Battlefront II. Obviously, this requires the user to have "Xbox Live!"

XBOX Expansion Pack is NOW LIVE!

xtmn8r

EDITED BY Master Mike...: Feb 02, 2006 08:10 AM

We've gotten confirmation from Microsoft that the Expansion Pack is now LIVE.

Enjoy!

You can read a full list of additions here. The $5 expansion basically gives you access to a few maps ported from SWBF1, some new heroes and the ability to play a few more maps in "Hero Assault" (Celebrity Deathmatch) mode than before.

This is in addition to the previously released "update" for Xbox users.

Meanwhile PC users continue to wait on their promised patch update (no pc equivalent to the Xbox expansion has been announced) which should be showing itself in about four days ("middle of next week"), according to the last news update.

SWBF2 PC Update Delayed
This just in, the promised PC update for Star Wars: Battlefront II was been slightly delayed, according to this post from xtmn8r on the official LucasArts forums:

Posted: Jan 31, 2006 01:44 PM

Just wanted to give everyone an update since we are at the end of the month and yes, we do not yet have the patch to release. As the team has been making changes to the Mod Tools, we've had to sync up the game code to better support what the Mod Tools create. As a result, we've had to hold-off on the PC patch until we are fairly confident no other Mod Tool changes will affect the core game. We apologize for the delay but want to insure that when the Mod Tools are released, it works completely with the current version of the game. Our best estimate for release is likely the middle of next week.

Thanks again for your continual support of Star Wars Battlefront II

The Star Wars Battlefront II team

Special thanks to zerted of LucasForums for the heads up! Good luck to the Pandemic team...

SWBF2 PC Update News
It's been nearly three months since the highly anticipated release of Star Wars Battlefront II, and since that time many of us, especially those who participated in the Beta test, have been hoping for a "patch" to fix up some issues in the game and tweak some other things we were concerned about.

And it looks like that day is finally going to arrive, in about a week or so, according to this recent announcement from the LucasArts forums:

The PC update and new Dedicated Server are fully in test right now. Assuming everything looks good, we should be rolling it out by the end of the month.

The PC Update will include many bugs fixes, performance improvements & minor gameplay tweaks and other miscellaneous changes.

With the release of this update, we will also be rolling out a new Dedicated Server that will be required to host PC games using this updated version. The New Dedicated Server will also have all its enhanced features fully functional. If you are curious on what features will be available, check out our PS2 Server update we just released as its features are very similar.

Shortly after the release of the PC update, we will be releasing the MOD Tools. The MOD Tools are almost done & is mostly waiting on the finalization of the PC Update & Server Update so we can insure it works properly with the current version of the game & vice versa. We should be able to give you a better timeline on the Mod Tools once the PC Update is released

Good luck Pandemic, and thank you! ;) Also thanks to the forum members for bringing this to our attention.

We'll be hopefully putting up our own download link for the file over at LucasFiles.com as soon as we can get our own copy.

Download Kashyyk for SWBFII (XBOX)
LucasArts today announced its downloadable content plans for the Xbox version of Star Wars Battlefront II, the best-selling game of November.

Now available for free download, the newly added Assault mode on Kashyyyk adds another location for the Hero Free-For-All, a mode previously seen only when you selected Assault at Mos Eisley.

As the millions who have played the game already know, Hero Free-for-All pits all 17 of Battlefront II

Qtracker adds SWBF2 support!
Have you ever wanted to see how many Star Wars Battlefront 2 servers there are or locate a player, without firing up the game? Or perhaps you don't have the game installed but want to see how the community is doing?

Well Qtracker is your solution! A free program designed many years ago (and constantly updated) by Ron Mercer (DM Ohio), this is a nice app to have for all your SWBF 1 (and now 2!) needs. Of course it supports a multitude of other online games, including all the popular titles.

Here's the latest update straight from Ron's page:

Qracker 4.11 Released! November 10th, 2005 @ 11:35PM ET

This release fixes three major bugs that slipped into 4.1: Quake 4 query crashing, the inability to connect to a F.E.A.R. server, and server refreshes that would just die part way through. I've snuck Star Wars Battlefront II support into this release, plus a few new features. I hope you enjoy the release, and as you can tell from the screenshot I'm almost done with the Quake 4 Mapshot Pack. Expect that tomorrow. Frag on!

Another great thing about Qtracker is that it supports many games that no other tracker does, including old school titles like Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight and X-Wing Alliance. ;)

Features List:

- Server browser for the Internet or LAN.

- Easy server remote administration.
- PlayerWatch feature keeps tells you when and where your friends are playing.
- Mapshots show you what level is being played.
- Filters.
- Server-side filters including regions, modifications, and game types.
- Player names are shown using in-game fonts.
- Music (Shoutcast) support.
- HTML and PHP server list generation.
- Fast querying.
- PlayerWatch window is skinnable, and GUI is completely customizable.

Check it out over at Qtracker.com!

SWBF2 PC Dedicated Server Released
Ever since Star Wars Battlefront II was released last week, I've been hearing folks complaining about "lag" in the game.

Well, the best solution to your problems is to host your own server!

Thanks to the folks at Pandemic/LucasArts we now have one more way to host a game. Note that players could always host a dedicated (or non-dedicated) SWBF2 server through the in-game setup (multiplayer--->create game) or through creating a batch file, but now you have a nice complete launcher for all your hand-holding server hosting needs. ;)

PC beta ended
As one might expect with the release of the full game, the PC beta of SWBF2 is closed. CD Keys for it ran out some time ago and now the beta can't be downloaded anymore from Fileplanet.

So to everyone still curious about playing the game, you can check out the console demos through through magazine bundles or the ROTS DVD set.

Now that the full version should be out on store shelves, time to check it out!

As a side note: once I get the game I will be working on a feature that will introduce new players to the game and compare it to the previous installment.
